Have some items at home and you just aren’t quite sure of the proper way to get rid of them? Below is a list of items that aren’t a part of your usual everyday garbage, and how to dispose of them.
At this time we do not pick up mattresses on our normal residential routes. If you rent a dumpster, and the mattress fits, then we will accept it. Otherwise, you can either donate it, or take it to the Paulden Transfer Station
You can dispose of paint, but it MUST be dry. If the can is still very full of paint, you can mix in sawdust, litter or even rags to help it dry quicker. Once dry, you can throw it away in any receptacle .
At this time we do not accept tires in residential or commercial pick up. Yavapai County Tire Yard, however, will accept your first 5 tires for free! For more information please call Yavapai County Public Works at 928-771-3183.
Alkaline and carbon-zinc batteries are non-hazardous. Batteries in sizes A, AA, AAA,s C and D are perfectly safe to dispose of in your regular trash can.
Rechargeable batteries that are nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd), nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH), lithium ion (Li-ion), or small, sealed lead batteries, weighing less than two pounds can be recycled at an HHW event or battery vendor; or disposed of at your local transfer station.
Any and all ammo can be taken to your local police department for disposal.
We do not accept tv’s in our residential or commercial bins, but some places do accept used electronics for recycling (staples, best buy.. etc.)
Items accepted at the transfer station include flat screen televisions, laptops without batteries, computer towers, VCRs, DVD players, and cable boxes.
Items not accepted include cathode-ray tube TVs, phones, vacuums, microwaves, toasters, toaster ovens, keyboards, printers, and stereos.
Any and all prescription drugs can be disposed of at your local police department.
Empty propane canisters and other compressed gas tanks and cylinders may be taken to a propane suppliers for refill (e.g. Yavapai Bottle Gas, Ferrellgas, Blue Rhino; U-Haul), or metal recyclers (e.g. Yavapai Metal Recycling, and salvage yards (e.g. Prescott Salvage and Recycling).
The Transfer Station does not accept gas cylinders for disposal.
The proper way to dispose of small amounts of grease is to allow for cooling until hard, place in a container with a lid (such as a coffee can) and place in your regular trash cart. If you have large amounts of liquid cooking oil, it can be recycled at the Transfer Station, free of charge, as long as it is in the original container.
Motor oil can be recycled at Autozone.
We do not accept any appliances as a part of our regular residential or commercial trash services.
Appliances such as washers, dryers, hot water heaters, and stoves are accepted at your local transfer station. Refrigerators, air conditioners and freezers are also accepted They must have all CFC’s (refrigerants) evacuated prior to acceptance in order to avoid being charged an additional fee.
We will take your cardboard in your recycling bin! Please break down any and all boxes before placing in bin.
