Glass-Can I recycle it?

When it comes to glass, not all of it is recyclable. While glass bottles and jars are recyclable, flat household glass is not. Flat glass is actually treated, and has a lower melting point than glass containers. This type of glass, including window glass, drinkware, mirrors, and ceramics must be thrown in the garbage.

If the glass is whole, it is good to cover it in duct tape or wrap it with saran wrap. This will prevent glass shards from getting everywhere if the glass breaks in transit.

Broken glass is a bit of a different story. It’s best not to place it loose in your can. Make sure to wear gloves and shoes when handling broken glass to protect yourself, and place and broken glass in a thick garbage bag to protect sanitation workers.
